Here we built a bluestone patio that connects the house to an office and potting shed and also serves as a generous future seating area without hindering the circulation of the space. We used the natural shape of the stones to achieve an organic, yet refined look. surrounding the stone we created a perennial garden that that will provide blooms through the seasons as well as some evergreen presence in the wintertime. An eastern redbud and japanese maple will, in future summers, shade the patio and office. In wintertime they will shed their leaves allowing through more sunlight to warm the stones of the patio and the office.
